Happy 4th of July

Happy 4th of July (American Independence)

———————————————————————-

Hello everyone just a quick post here celebrating well… The American Independence of a nation so great that it can continue to sustain it’s existence after 240 years some of which have been turbulent some of which have been very peaceful. So to all of our fellow Americans we wish you a great celebratory day and night with your family and friends!

Now for you non-Americans that view this site we here would like to say thank you. Thank you for continuing to support us, for continuing to be friends and allies abroad even though we as individuals, groups, even as countries disagree with one another yet the civility that can be found on the internet can be so profound. Compassion should always beat out hate.

But this site deals less with politics or even boundaries and more so on the entertainment we seek in life. Sometimes that entertainment is found in Video games and related sub cultures tied to it. So what are some games that can be tied to the American Independence or celebration of America? The list much like many others like it vary in worth and enjoyment. On one end of the spectrum you have  games like Independence Day for the PlayStation. And on the other you have games like that of Broforce.

Independence Day (1997, PC, PS1/PSX, Sega Saturn)

Independence Day is based on the movie of the same name in which the world itself has to fight off an alien invasion by a race of intergalactic highly advanced telepathic locust like in nature aliens. Naturally the movie takes place in America and America is the world savior not after many losses including the iconic destruction of the White house. The game however is basically a better version of Superman 64 i.e a flight sim game with every mission that being timed.  Worth Playing?: No. If you like Flight Sims but want it to take place in America play Ace Combat: Assault Horizon.

Civilization (Series 1991-On going, Various)

Sid Meier’s Civilization the game series isn’t so much a game about America but rather as the title suggests a game series on Civilization. One in which you can play as America, or if inclined take America on. This series is one of B.T.’s favorites considering it has both strategy and management elements. Though unsurprising B.T.’s favorite civilizations to play as are Japan and Germany and not America.
Worth Playing?: Yes, if you enjoy slow games that require a various amount if management and foresight of various strategic needs. Games can be won in a variety of ways from violent to peaceable and globalist to isolationist.

Assassins Creed 3 (2012, PC, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U)

Assassins Creed 3 is oddly not the 3rd game in the series but rather the 8th in a long series of basically the same game over and over again as far as mechanics are concerned. If you’ve played one you’ve played them all but AC3
takes place in the time period of the American Revolution and is actually fun at parts even having a DLC where George Washington turns evil which is fantastic as a “History What-If”. The game itself also puts a bit of note on the fact not all people who fought for American Independence we’re European and even those that were came from all different walks. In other words America has been a melting pot since before its inception.  Worth Playing?: Yes, if you enjoy both platforming and naval battles and/or history within video games.

Broforce (2012/2015, PC/Linux/PS4)

Broforce as some of you may seen is a 2D pixel art platforming puzzler that combines American 80s & 90s Action heroes and insane American Patriotism together in a enjoyable if not camp mix. The purpose is of course freedom fighting and saving your bros around the world. Coupled with the insane amount of Bro puns and pixel carnage this game is an absolute must have if you enjoy playing couch co-op with friends and family!
Worth Playing?: Yes, it’s Team America: World Police if it was a video game.

While this list is rather short it is a glimpse of a few games that may interest people though it is recommended to stay away from the Independence Day game. As always thank you so very much for checking out our website and we hope to see you return!

——————————————————————–

I believe in the United States of America, as a government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign Nation of many sovereign States; a perfect union, one and inseparable; established upon these principles of freedom, equality, justice, and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes. I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support its Constitution, to obey its laws, to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies.

— William Tyler Page, The American’s Creed (1917)
